Social networking sites are a staple of communication in today’s society. The majority of Americans use it in some form or fashion. As defined in the slideshows presented on Blackboard, social networking sites can be defined as a site that must allow user to construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users whom they share a connection, and view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system. This means that social networking sites provide a place to network and communicate with other users. Such a place is beneficial for the growth of ideas and relationships in the workplace and in personal life. Though social networking sites can be used for spreading and strengthening communication, it does have its limits. Communication is the basis of human interaction. Communication allows us to share ideas, collaborate, educate, and form relationships. Communication comes in many forms. My opinion is the accessibility for different mediums of communication and the speed and distance in which we can communicate benefits the human race as a whole.   In the past, the mediums of communication were limited. Human contact, oral speech, and body language were the main mediums for expressing ideas and communicating between humans throughout history. This era of history in terms of communication is considered the ‘pre-agricultural society’ stage, as noted in the slideshows. As we have developed through the years, so have our mediums for communication. Written forms of communication were created during the ‘agricultural society’ stage, but were limited to the ‘elite’ class.
